As in the novel, the film raises serious political, moral and educational questions. It speaks of the changes taking place in agriculture, of the people of the modern village and of the struggle to restore democratic methods in leadership. The core of this social drama: only those in charge who rely on the people and on the collective can reach the goals they set themselves.
