In some families women are not allowed to study — and what does that lack of education lead to? Young women are sometimes deceived by the sort of scraps of men who still call themselves men. There is no shortage of people who turn into “lions” behind a monitor. There are “men” in the neighbourhood who look with bad eyes at the wives and loved ones of those they call brothers, and mothers who endure a husband's betrayal for the sake of a child. As world cinema often does, Be a Man gathers several themes around a single character: the journalist Mubariz, whose writing has earned the respect of the Press Council and of his colleagues. Threatened by a businessman, Mubariz must not write a certain article — and if he writes it he will lose his family. How will he get out of this? The film speaks of journalists with and without taste, of celebrities tormented on social media, of artists and of those with no art at all, and sets out the difference between being popular and being loved, between singing and shouting, between culture and its absence.
