The film tells of the arbitrary rule and cruelty the Bolsheviks visited upon people in Azerbaijan's remote regions who would not accept Soviet order during the years it was being built. Rasul, who inherited the secrets of healing, is a quiet herbalist who treats the villagers with various plants. The arrival of Russian troops in the village destroys that quiet: the new rules do not satisfy him, and in the end the healer rises to fight for his family's honour.
