A film about the seemingly impossible love of the Muslim Mahmud and the Christian Maryam, set in the 1500s. Mahmud is the son of Ziyad Khan of Ganja; Maryam is the daughter of a Christian priest. Neither Ziyad Khan nor the priest welcomes the young people's love, and the priest takes Maryam far away. Despite his father's objections Mahmud follows her. On the road he reaches the plain where the battle of Chaldiran was fought and is deeply shaken by what he sees. With the help of Suleyman Pasha he finds Maryam — yet at the end of the film both lovers pass from this world in legendary fashion.
