
Namis Shirmammadov was born on 3 April 1962. From 1979 to 1983 he studied at the "drama and film acting" faculty of the Azerbaijan University of Culture and Arts. From 1983 to 1989 he worked at the Sumgait State Drama Theatre. At the invitation of the great actor Hasanagha Turabov, he worked at the Academic National Drama Theatre until 1997. In 1997 he returned to the Sumgait State Drama Theatre, where he worked as an actor until 2008. Namis Shirmammadov is a psychological-dramatic actor, best known for his dramatic character roles. Since 2008 he has been the theatre's resident director. In 2008, by presidential decree, he was awarded the honorary title of "Honoured Artist" of the Republic, and in 2013 the "Taraggi" (Progress) medal. Namis Shirmammadov was the first in the Republic to portray National Leader Heydar Aliyev on stage, in the role in A. Babayev's play "Xilaskar" (The Saviour). Besides this, Namis Shirmammadov has performed in many roles at the Sumgait theatre. He passed away on 12 April 2024, at the age of 62, following a long illness.
