What is Mustafa (Haji Ismayilov) from The Birthday doing now, and what cares does he live with? Here the poor geography teacher, urged on by his wife, sells what little he has, borrows the rest and travels to Turkey both to see a relative (Hasan Mammadov) and to trade. Knowing nothing of the laws of a market economy, he fails — yet even in this tragicomic position he keeps his human dignity. Despite the title, the authors do not touch on the problems of trade at all: the aim is not to criticise trading or traders, but through people like Mustafa to recall a wise saying — everyone in life has their own bread and their own lot. The events take place mainly in Sheki and Istanbul.
