Emin Sabitoglu was born on 2 November 1937 in Baku into the family of writer Sabit Rahman. After music school, he entered the Conservatory in 1954, in the class of Gara Garayev. Two years later he transferred to the composition class of Yuri Shaporin at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (1956–1961). Emin Sabitoglu died on 18 November 2000 in Baku. He was the son of writer Sabit Rahman and Ismat khanum Yerevanski. He was the father of musicologist Jeyran Mahmudova and the husband of singer Khadija Abbasova.
