The hero has not seen his father for fifteen years. To say goodbye to the dying man he takes his family and hurries to their remote village. Having had little contact with his father even as a child, he does not arrive in time for the farewell — only for the funeral. The shock of the death brings his confessions to the surface: he passes through catharsis and is morally cleansed. In this way the film touches the universal question of fathers and sons.
