
Khayyam Mirzazade was born on 5 October 1935 in Baku. In 1957 he graduated from the Uzeyir Hajibeyov Azerbaijan State Conservatory. He has worked there ever since. From 1969 to 1983 he was head of the composition department. His works have been performed in Austria, England, Hungary, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, France and other countries. He composed music for more than 30 films and 15 theatre productions, as well as for variety and jazz pieces and popular songs. Khayyam Mirzazade left the Azerbaijan Composers' Union after 52 years of membership. The distinguished composer died at home on 30 July 2018, at the age of 82, after a long illness. He was buried in the Second Alley of Honour. During the composer's lifetime, the documentary films "The Seasons of a Life: Khayyam Mirzazade at 75" and "Maestro. On Myself and My Time" were made about him.
