The events take place in one of the provincial towns. Abbas, a secondary-school teacher, wants his wife Vafa to bear him a son to continue his line. For reasons beyond her control, Vafa cannot fulfil her husband's wish. Then a homeless boy named Orkhan crosses their path — and everything changes at the root.
