Seymur Tahirbayov is an international chess grandmaster. Winning the next tournament earns him the right to challenge the reigning world champion. A few weeks before the match he learns of his grandfather's death, and his psychological and emotional state deteriorates. Telling no one, Seymur withdraws into solitude and travels to Kur Dili island, of which his grandfather had once spoken. On the island, inhabited mostly by wild horses, he meets its only human resident, an old man. At first wary of each other, the two lonely people slowly begin to talk. But time is running out: the world championship match is very near.
