A lyrical, psychological film about true friendship — it could just as well be called “A Conversation About a Friend”. Its heroes are our contemporaries: people of different characters and outlooks. The film examines moral questions and the richness of the inner life. Mustafa (Haji Ismayilov), a teacher from Sheki, comes to Baku on business. Staying at the home of his relative Nazim (Fuad Poladov), he meets Farida (Shafiga Mammadova) by an awkward coincidence at the post office and offers to show her the city. Meanwhile Ali (David Uplisashvili) decides to throw a birthday party for his son and gather his childhood friends. After inviting them door to door, he prepares with great care. Walking Farida home, Mustafa is caught in heavy rain and she invites him in until it stops. Ali's party has begun; the guests are laughing and enjoying themselves. Seeing the rain will not stop, Farida offers Mustafa a bed in the kitchen. Ali, exhausted by excitement, falls asleep halfway through his own party while the friends carry on. At midnight the rain stops and Farida suggests Mustafa go home — leaving him alone in the streets of an unfamiliar Baku. Ali wakes to find the party over and everyone gone. Stepping out onto the balcony, he sees Mustafa passing by, runs after him and invites him in. And so they celebrate a real birthday...
