A parable about great love — love for people and love for God. Its heroes are children at the very beginning of life. Little Buta is the luckier of them: he has a wise teacher, an old man who sells liquid soap and helps the boy in everything, and whose own great dream is to restore an old mill. Buta wants to lay out on the mountainside a buta pattern so large it can be seen only from the height of a bird's flight, while envious village children try to stop him. A representative of the soap company comes to advertise its products and falls in love with a local girl, Gonche, who must finish the “carpet of life” she is weaving in order to be united with her beloved. Several storylines end together: Gonche finishes her carpet, Buta completes his pattern, and the old man restores the mill — and falls into eternal sleep.
