Foundation

Ali, eighteen, divides his life between his studies and delivering the cakes his fifty-four-year-old grandmother bakes to order. Fatherless since childhood, he long hoped his father would come back one day; eight years on he has grown up and stopped thinking about him. On one of his usual delivery runs Ali runs into two boys from the neighbourhood. The argument turns into a fight; his first thought is to set the box aside and protect what is inside. The cake survives — he does not. Unable to walk, he decides to order a taxi, but his phone battery is dead. A thirty-nine-year-old taxi driver happens to pick him up on the road, and after some time together Ali realises on his own birthday who the driver really is.
