On an ordinary day the oil workers' foreman Marat (Fakhraddin Manafov) is at the field when a friend (Mikayil Karimov) comes to see him. Marat had known him since childhood: a selfish, self-loving man who had even taken from him the girl he loved (Galina Belyayeva) and married her. He has not come for nothing this time either — to defend his dissertation he must carry out trials at the field, trials that will supposedly increase oil production many times over, though while they last the current plan will be at risk. Despite his friend's old betrayal, Marat allows the trials to go ahead. Along with social and moral questions, the film speaks of the outlook of young people and of their stance in life. Views, work, love, friendship and characters collide here; cowardice fights courage and lies fight the truth. The young worker places the common cause above personal interest.
