The events take place roughly in the 1990s. There is a fortress in the film, and this fortress is witness to everything. Standing among the mountains near a remote village, it was attacked by enemies long ago and never surrendered. A film crew comes to the village. Neglected for years, the ancient fortress has fallen into ruin and the villagers have taken its stones to build houses for themselves — but the crew's interest in it changes their attitude, and they come to see it not merely as a monument but as a carrier of the people's historical memory. Living on the border with the enemy, the villagers are anxious every day, and one day the village must be emptied: the enemy has crossed the border and is advancing in force. Everyone leaves. Only one member of the film crew refuses to go and stays in the fortress, saying that the further we run, the further they will chase us.
