One of the brightest figures of Azerbaijani comedic acting, who from his very first entrance on stage in every performance captivated audiences with a witty, engaging and extraordinary voice unlike anyone else's in the history of our national theatre, Aliagha Ismail oglu Aghayev was born on 22 March 1913 in Baku. He lost his father at an early age. In 1930, after finishing seventh grade, he studied at the vocational school attached to the Paris Commune ship-repair plant. Two years later, having graduated, he worked as a ship fitter at the plant itself. Aliagha, who hummed under his breath at work with a rich, sweet voice, joined the plant's drama club. His first role was that of Haji Gara in Mirza Fatali Akhundzade's comedy "Haji Gara."
