
Tamara Gozalova was born on 14 February 1940 in the Icharishahar (Old City) quarter of Baku, into a family of intellectuals. She finished School No. 190 in Baku in 1957, and in 1965 graduated from the librarianship department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Azerbaijan State University. From 1965 until 18 January 2011 she headed a department at the M. F. Akhundov Azerbaijan National Library. Having begun working at the Baku Television Studio in 1956–1959, T. Gozalova became the first female announcer of Azerbaijan State Television. She played the celebrated role of Gulnaz in 'Not That One, This One' — widely known among the public as 'Mashadi Ibad' — regarded as a masterpiece of Azerbaijani cinema and the country's first full-length colour feature film, based on Uzeyir Hajibeyov's operetta of the same name. Tamara Gozalova, who had one child, died of cancer on 8 May 2020. She was buried at the Ahmadli village cemetery.
