
Sughra Baghirzade was born on 10 February 1947 in Baku and received her secondary education at Secondary School No. 7 in Baku. From childhood she had a great interest in the arts. Her first success came in 1959 during the ten-day festival of Azerbaijani culture in Moscow, when she performed the song "My Chicks" solo on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre. It was this performance of "My Chicks" by Sughra Baghirzade, conducted by maestro Niyazi with the accompaniment of the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra, that was included on the record "The Best Children's Voices in the World," released at the Artek Pioneer Camp. At the age of 12 the talented girl was invited to the Azerbaijanfilm Studio as a dubbing actress. While in the 8th grade she was cast in the lead role of director Zeynab Kazimova's short film "By Roads and Streets." In 1963 she was cast as Yatar in Agharza Guliyev's film "Ulduz," which achieved great popularity and, from then on, enduring success and the audience's affection. After graduating from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of the Azerbaijan Oil Academy in 1970, Sughra Baghirzade returned to the film studio as an engineer. Alongside this, she continued her career as an actress and created memorable characters in many films. Her hobby, which began earlier as a passion for working with flowers, gradually developed into another profession. The compositions she created from natural flowers earned her fame as a floral artist. She is the founder of the public association "Floristics" in Support of the Arts. The actress is also a member of the Union of Artists of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Cinematographers' Union, the Confederation of Cinema Unions of the CIS and Baltic States, and, since 2004, of the World Flower Council, which includes 27 countries. She is the first and only representative not only of Azerbaijan but of all Turkic-speaking countries in this council. She has been awarded the certificate "New Professional Direction in the Floristry Industry" by the council. She has more than 200 works. To date she has represented Azerbaijan in countries such as Latvia, Russia, France, Malaysia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Croatia, Japan and China. Her works have also been exhibited at various summits of the World Flower Council held in different countries. She is the author of the book "Floristics," the first of its kind published in Azerbaijani.
