
Sadagat Karimova was born on 30 March 1953 in Gusar. In 1969 she graduated from Gusar Secondary School No. 1. Already during her school years she began publishing poems, stories and articles in a number of the republic's newspapers and magazines. Having enrolled in the journalism faculty of Azerbaijan State University in 1969, S. Karimova became known from her very first years as a student for her freelance contributions to the newspaper 'Azerbaijan Gancleri', in particular her series of articles on moral themes. After graduating from university she worked without interruption for 17 years at the newspaper 'Sovet Kendi' of the Central Committee of the Azerbaijan Communist Party. She later worked as head of a department at the newspaper 'Azerbaijan' and as deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper 'Gunay'. Since 1997 S. Karimova has been editor-in-chief of the newspaper 'Samur', published in three languages, which she publishes at her own expense. S. Karimova is the author of over 9,000 articles published in Azerbaijani, Russian and Lezgi. For her achievements in journalism, still in the Soviet era, she was awarded the Azerbaijan Union of Journalists' 'Golden Pen' prize (1984) and the Hasan bay Zardabi prize (1991). Sadagat Karimova is to date the author of 40 books of poetry and prose published in Lezgi, Azerbaijani, Russian and Turkish. Her Azerbaijani-language prose books include 'A Silent Cry', 'One Spring Night', 'State', 'Sunset', 'White Sorrow', 'Someone Else's Pain' and 'At the Crossroads', while her poetry collections include 'The Song of a Stranger Bird', 'Look into Your Heart, Human' and 'Where Are You, My Former Self?'
