
Shahmar Zulfugar oglu Alakbarov (23 August 1943, Kirovabad – 12 August 1992, Baku) was an Azerbaijani actor, screenwriter, voice actor, narrator and director, People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR (1989), and a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (from 1978). He first appeared on stage in a production of William Shakespeare's 'Lope de Vega'. After the success he achieved in the play 'The Craftsmen', he won the affection of a wide audience. His first film role came in 'Battle in the Mountains'. His last was 'The Burden', a film based on his own screenplay, whose premiere he did not live to see. The film told the story of the Baku millionaire Agha Musa Naghiyev, and was screened at the Berlin Film Festival. He worked as both actor and director at the 'Azerbaijanfilm' studio. After completing his education he was kept on at the university as a teaching assistant. Shahmar Alakbarov was also active in radio and television. His first radio appearance was as host of the programme 'Ulduz'. He also created memorable characters in dozens of television plays, and hosted the radio programme 'Molla Nasraddin'. He took part in the dubbing of many films. His close friends called Shahmar Alakbarov 'the living trio'.
