
Mirza Aghabayli was born on 29 August 1950 in the Buzovna settlement of Baku. In 1971 he entered the M. A. Aliyev Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts. In 1975 he graduated from the drama and film acting faculty, headed by People's Artist of the USSR, Professor Mehdi Mammadov. In 1975 he was assigned to work at the S. Rahman Sheki State Drama Theatre. In 1976 he was called up for military service. In 1977 he worked as an actor at the "Training" Theatre under the M. A. Aliyev Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts. In 1982 he was invited to the Azerbaijan State National Academic Drama Theatre. From 1994 he worked as artistic director at the "Bari-Bakh" film studio, operating under the Jafar Jabbarli Azerbaijanfilm studio. In 2008 he worked as coordinator at the "Sinag Film" producer centre. In 2008 he was once again invited to the Academic National Drama Theatre. In 2009, in connection with the 111th anniversary of the founding of Azerbaijani cinema, he was awarded the honorary title of Honoured Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his services to the development of Azerbaijani cinematography. In 2017 he was awarded the Jafar Jabbarli Prize.
