
Asgar Mammadoglu was born on 9 February 1946 in the city of Baku. In 1975 he graduated from the drama and film acting faculty of the M. A. Aliyev Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts. In 1977 he was accepted into the acting company of the Academic National Drama Theatre. In 1982 he moved to the Sumgait State Drama Theatre, and six months later transferred to the Teaching Theatre. Asgar Mammadoglu created a number of characters in television plays, including the Poet ("Evləri köndələn yar," Anar), the Militiaman ("Yaşıl eynəkli adam," V. Samadoglu), the Servant ("Mehmanxana sahibəsi," C. Goldoni), Damir-gaya ("Topal Teymur," H. Javid), Narsatan ("Qatarda," I. Malikzadeh), and Gumrah ("Alov," M. Huseyn). Appearing in nearly 20 sketches of the satirical newsreel "Mozalan," Asgar Mammadoglu also took part in feature films such as "Ömrun səhifələri" (Pages of a Life, as Alasgar), "Xoşbəxtlik qayğıları" (The Troubles of Happiness, as Alovsat), "Bəyin oğurlanması" (The Kidnapping of the Bey, as Alasgar), and "Tehran-43" (as Ghulam Rza), among others. In particular, his character Alasgar in "Bəyin oğurlanması" still brings a smile to the face of viewers of all ages today. The actor's last screen appearance was in the film "Xoxan." In 2002 Asgar Mammadoglu was awarded the honorary title of Honoured Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
