
Anvar Hasanov was born on 17 August 1950 in Baku. Having studied at school No. 190 until the 7th grade, Anvar then moved to the Working Youth School. The reason for this was his admission, in 1965, to the film-actor course opened by Adil Isgandarov at the Jafar Jabbarli "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio. He finished the film-actor course in 1969. From 1969 to 1973 he studied at the faculty of film and drama acting of the M.A. Aliyev Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts. He has worked at the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio since 1965. Anvar Hasanov began appearing in films from a young age. He is especially known for creating memorable characters such as Jalal in "I Want Seven Sons," Shahbaz in "The Dervish Blows Up Paris," Tarkhan in "Babek," Sirac in "Saddle the Horses," and Murad in "The Last Night of Childhood," among other interesting roles. He appeared alongside his wife, actress Momunat Gurbanova, in the films "The Dervish Blows Up Paris" and "Saddle the Horses." As a director, he made the documentaries "Cry, My Khojaly, Cry," "The Trap," and "The Unfading Lamp," about Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev. For his services to the development of Azerbaijani cinema, he was awarded the honorary title of Honoured Artist of Azerbaijan on 18 December 2000, and People's Artist on 1 August 2018. On 6 May 2023 he was granted a personal stipend from the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his services to the development of Azerbaijani culture. In January 2025, due to a decline in his health, he was hospitalised, and was discharged home on 3 February. Anvar Hasanov passed away on 16 March 2025 after a long illness. He was buried beside his wife's grave in the family cemetery in the Buzovna settlement of Baku.
