
Emil Guliyev was born on 5 February 1986 in the city of Baku. He graduated from secondary school No. 68. He graduated from the law faculty of the Moscow University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. He holds the rank of police captain. Testing himself in the field of cinema since 2011, Emil made his first short film, Incognito. He has made nearly 50 short films and three feature films. The director's film Hope was awarded "Best Director" at the 5th Grand Prix independent film festival of short films "Shorty" in Tula and at the 8th "Varesh International Film Festival" in Mazandaran, and also won the award for best film and directing at the New York Film Festival. The director's film Paradox was awarded the diploma for best film at a short film festival in New York. It won an award at the Tula International Film Festival. It also received an award from the Baku Film Institute for best cinematography and an award at the "Family" film festival held by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. His film Cry for Mother was awarded a prize at the New York Film Festival. In 2023 he was awarded the "IV Contemporary Audiovisual Review" prize.
