
Elkhan Mammad oghlu Gasimov was born on 24 April 1945 in Nakhchivan. From the 4th and 5th grades of secondary school he attended a dance club at the Pioneers' Palace and took part in basketball and volleyball. He played for a youth volleyball team from Nakhchivan. He became a festival laureate as a dancer in Baku. After a year and a half as a professional dancer and soloist at the Nakhchivan State Song and Dance Ensemble, Elkhan studied acting at the M.A. Aliyev Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1962–1966) and directing at the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography (1973–1978). Known as "driver Ahmad" from the film "Where Is Ahmad?", Elkhan Gasimov worked at the "Azerbaijanfilm" studio from 1969. He is the author of feature films, documentaries and "Mozalan" satirical newsreel segments. For his services in the development of Azerbaijani cinema, he was awarded the honorary title of Honoured Artist of Azerbaijan on 18 December 2000. In May 2023 he developed health problems. He died on 29 May 2023 from a ruptured aortic aneurysm. He was buried in Khirdalan Cemetery.
