
Ajdar Hamidov was born on 28 September 1953 in the village of Aygunlu, Shabran district (formerly Davachi district). In 1979 he graduated from the drama and film acting faculty of the M.A. Aliyev Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts. Upon receiving his assignment, A. Hamidov was sent to the Sumgayit State Musical Drama Theatre, where he played a number of interesting roles on stage. His portrayals of characters such as the Vizier ("The Vizier of the Khan of Lankaran," M.F. Akhundov), the character in ("The Miser," S.S. Akhundov), the militiaman ("The Ring of Fortune," V. Samadoglu), Malik ("Man's Man," Anar), the Vagabond ("Let the Whole East Know," N. Hasanzade), Dursunali ("Dursunali and Ballibadi," S.M. Ganizade) and others earned him the audience's affection. In 1990 A. Hamidov was accepted into the acting company of the Academic National Drama Theatre. During these years he created characters in various genres, such as the Devil ("The Sword That Cuts Us," B. Vahabzade), the First Infidel ("Burlakhatun," N. Khazri), Dashdamir ("People of This World," Hidayat), Vanya Kokha ("The Ruler and His Daughter," I. Afandiyev), Mashadi Oruj ("The Dead," J. Mammadguluzade), Shou-Zali ("They Hadn't Yet Said 'I Love You'...," R. Novruz), and Dito ("If Only the Cart Hadn't Overturned," O. Ioseliani). The actor created successful characters in a number of films produced by "Azerbaijanfilm." His roles as Gasim in "A Man's Word," Ahmad in "The Anecdote," and Karamali in "Haji Gara" made him a favourite of audiences. His portrayal of the Inspector in the 2006 multi-part television film "The Inspection" brought the artist great success. In 2002 Ajdar Hamidov was awarded the honorary title of Honoured Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and on 27 May 2018 the honorary title of People's Artist of Azerbaijan. He was awarded the Presidential Prize on 30 April 2014, 6 May 2015, 6 May 2016, 1 May 2017, 9 May 2018, 10 May 2019 and 7 May 2020. Ajdar Hamidov died of a stroke at the Clinical Medical Centre on 24 November 2020.
