
Karimova Ulviyya Oqtay gizi was born on 28 September 1972 in Baku. In 1989 she finished secondary school No. 1 of the Railway. From 1991 to 1995 she studied at the faculty of psychology of Baku State University. From 1992 to 1996 she worked as an assistant director, and later as a director, at the Jafar Jabbarli "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio, making music videos, social and other commercials, and in 1996 she directed the television film "The Sixth Floor of the Five-Storey House," based on the work of the same name by the writer Anar. In 2000 she was awarded the "Humay" prize for the video clip "Dashti." In 2004 she produced the promotional video about Azerbaijan for "Azerbaijan Day" within the framework of the Olympic Games held in Athens. She was the director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in 2004, of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championship in 2005, and, in the same year, of the gala concert dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the renowned academician and scholar Yusif Mammadaliyev, organised at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, as well as of other projects. In 2011 she directed the full-length film "Where Is the Lawyer?" ("Vakil hani?"). In 2016 she was the production director of the film "An Extraordinary Coincidence," filmed at the "Azerbaijanfilm" studio. She has worked as director of many cultural-mass events, commercials, concert and show programmes. Since October 2019 she has served as chief director of "Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting" CJSC. In 2016 she was awarded the honorary title of Honoured Art Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan for her services to the development of Azerbaijani musical culture. Since 18 October 2021 she has been appointed director of the "Madaniyyat" ("Culture") television channel operating under the CJSC.
