
Ramiz Azizbeyli was born on 20 July 1948 in Baku. He graduated from the cultural-educational faculty of the M. A. Aliyev Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts. He is an actor and director, working at the Azerbaijanfilm studio, and holds the title of People's Artist of the Republic. In 1987 he began his directing career with the short feature film "Pirverdi's Rooster", made at the "Debut" studio. The film was successfully shown at several international film festivals and received an award for best directorial debut at the All-Union festival held in Kyiv. In 1991 he made the full-length feature film "The Ring of Fortune". The film became known as the most popular box-office film shown in cinemas and the first highest-grossing film work of our recent history. It received a special diploma at the film festival of Asian and Latin American countries held in Tashkent. His film "Lies", which he directed, was dedicated to the Karabakh problem and the tragedies it caused. For his services to the development of Azerbaijani cinema, he was awarded the honorary title of Honoured Artist of Azerbaijan on 18 December 2000 and People's Artist of Azerbaijan on 1 August 2008. On 1 August 2018 he was awarded the Order of "Shohrat" ("Glory").
