
She was born on 25 May 1963 in Ankara. Her father, Abidin Kumbasar (b. 1932), from a family originally hailing from Rize, is a professor and specialist in internal medicine and cardiology. Kumbasar has a younger brother named Deniz. From her father's second marriage, to news presenter Canan Kumbasar, she also has a half-brother named Genco Guralp. Because of her father's work, Kumbasar finished kindergarten in the United States. While studying at TED Ankara College, she was sent by her mother to a modeling and finishing school. She later left her economics studies at the Ankara Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences unfinished and moved to Istanbul to work as a model. Years later she called this decision "my greatest regret." During that period she appeared in numerous commercials. She took her first step into acting in 1986 with the role of Nuzhet in the series "Dokuzuncu Hariciye Kogusu" (Ninth Ward of the Foreign Ministry), broadcast on TRT 1. She also began working as a television host in the 1980s. In 1989 she married Turkish actor and showman Mehmet Ali Erbil. Their daughter, Yasmin, was born in 1995. In 1996 she divorced her husband. In 2000 she returned to the screen with the role of Berna in the series "Eyvah, Kizim Buyudu" (Oh No, My Daughter Has Grown Up). In subsequent years she took part in various projects. She began working as a screenwriter with the series "Evimin Erkegi" (The Man of My House), broadcast in 2007. Between 2015 and 2017 she played the character Neriman in the series "Kiralik Ask" (Love for Rent), broadcast on Star TV.
