
Nailya Mirmammadli was born in 1961 in Baku. From 1968 to 1979 she studied piano at the Bulbul Special Secondary Music School. From 1981 to 1985 she studied musicology, conducting, choral conducting, vocal, arrangement and orchestration at the Tusi Pedagogical University, graduating with honours. To continue her education, from 1994 to 1997 Nailya Mirmammadli studied musicology at the Uzeyir Hajibeyov Baku Academy of Music and composition in the class of Tofig Guliyev (she was one of Tofig Guliyev's first and last students), again graduating with honours. From 1994 to 2004 she worked as a teacher at the Bulbul Special Secondary Music School and as choirmaster and ensemble director of the "Banovsha" choir. From 2003 until the end of her life she worked as associate professor and senior lecturer at the Faculty of Music of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. In 2020, by decision of the Academic Council of Baku State University, she was appointed director of the newly established Cultural-Creative Centre. Composer and Honoured Art Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan Nailya Mirmammadli died of a heart attack on 4 January 2021. She was buried at the "Gurd Gapisi" cemetery. Nailya Mirmammadli was the wife of the late composer Hikmat Mirmammadli. The artist lost her father in 2001. A year later, her 16-year-old son drowned in the sea. In 2007 her husband and mother passed away.
