
He began his professional stage career in 1988, the same year he won the republican competition 'Baku Autumn-88'. After this competition he went on to become a diploma winner, still as a student, at the republican competition 'Golden Autumn-89', the International 'Vitebsk-90' competition, and the International 'Yalta-92' television competition, establishing his name as a professional performer. After graduating from university, he also won the Klavdiya Shulzhenko International Retro Song Competition 'Kharkov-95' and the international competition 'Golden Hit' – Mogilev-96. This marked the beginning of a rising phase in Faig Aghayev's professional stage career. Since 1996 he has been a soloist of the Azerbaijan State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company. He also worked as a soloist of the Azerbaijan State Mugham Theatre in 2012–2013. The singer's first album, 'It Can't Be', was released in 1995. His discography continued with 'Nothing Replaces You', released in 1996, 'My Unfaithful One' in 1998, 'Faig Aghayev – Selections' in 2000, 'The End of the Millennium…' also in 2000, 'Top Secret' in 2004, and 'Faig Agayev – Album Collection', published in 2006.
