Elmaddin Afdandil oglu Aliyev was born in Lachin. He studied at the Directing Faculty of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts (2001-2005) and at Rustam Ibrahimbeyov''s "International Film School" (2007-2010). He was the author of one of the ten best short feature films in the UNICEF-organised short film project "Youth and Peace" (2002). He was awarded a diploma by the Ministry of Youth and Sport on the occasion of "Youth Day" (2008). He worked as a director at Space TV and ITV. As a director he has taken part in and won awards at international film festivals. He is co-founder of "Exa Production" and founder of "Karvan Production". Director and producer Elmaddin Aliyev is the husband of make-up artist Adila Aliyeva.
