
She was born on January 20, 1940, in Baku. Between 1957 and 1962 she studied philology at Azerbaijan State University, and between 1962 and 1967 she studied stage direction at the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography. She began her career as a director at the S. Vurgun Russian Drama Theatre and the Musical Comedy Theatre. She was the founder and artistic director of the Baku Chamber Theatre. She is a professor at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. From April 8, 2009, to September 1, 2012, she served as chief director of the Azerbaijan State Young Spectators' Theatre. She currently works there as a staging director. She is the wife of the well-known theatre figure and former director of the Azerbaijan State Musical Theatre, Gazanfar Topchuyev. She is also the cousin of the world-renowned Azerbaijani scholar Lotfi Zadeh, founder of the theory of fuzzy logic in artificial intelligence and professor at the University of California, Berkeley.
