
Azar Gurbanov was born in 1955 in the Balakan district. He was originally from the city of Ganja. He received his secondary education in Russian at School No. 225 in Baku. He later graduated from the vocal faculty of the Conservatoire. He made his debut at the age of 7 in the film 'Two From One Neighbourhood'. He went on to appear in 'The Foreign Girl' (1965), 'In the Sea Where We Played' (1967), and the first Soviet-Yugoslav co-production, 'Blue Bird, Have a Safe Journey' (1967). His greatest success came with the character of the pioneer Rashid in the film 'The Magic Robe'. Azar Gurbanov also appeared in the films 'The Blue Bird', 'The Judge', 'The Foreign Woman' and 'The Wind', produced by the Odessa film studio. From 1992 he lived in Short Hills, New Jersey, in the USA. The actor died in the USA in December 2023.
