
Agil Mahammad oghlu Abbasov was born on 1 April 1953 in the village of Kolani in the Aghjabadi district. In 1955, at the age of two, he moved with his family to Aghdam. After finishing Aghdam Secondary School No. 1, he continued his education at the philology faculty of Azerbaijan State University (1970–1976). He began his career as a teacher at a boarding school in the Aghsu district (1976–1977), then worked as a photojournalist and department head at the magazine Elm va Hayat (1977–1987) and as a special correspondent for the newspaper Sovet Kandi (1987–1990). He is currently editor-in-chief of the newspapers Adalat (since 1990) and Boz Gurd (since 1993). Although he began his creative work in 1970, his first published story, "Sweetness," did not appear until 1976, in the newspaper Adabiyyat va Injasanat. This was followed in 1977 by the story "The Trickster Nazim," published in the magazines Ulduz and Azerbaijan. He has appeared regularly in the press ever since. He is the author of the novellas Doomsday Night and Long Black Hair (2003).
